16s Win A Thriller, Sweep The Day
The 16u Terriers opened their PBLO season with a 3-2 nail biter over the Ontario Royals.


RHP Kawshik Murali got opening day duties and was brilliant through five innings of work, striking out nine while walking just one.

Ethan Magloughlin came on in the sixth to pick up the six out save.

 

The Terriers jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom half of the second when Josh Cote sliced a lead off double to right then crossed on Julian Russell's RBI double that eluded the Royals right fielder and rolled to the fence.

 

In the third the Terriers scored two more to make it 3-0. 

Tyson Gomm smashed a one out triple to left then scored when Liam Bavington pounded a triple of his own over the center fielders head. 

Liam scored later in the inning on Josh Cote's sac fly RBI.

 

The Royals scored two runs in the top of the fourth to get within one‎ and then mounted a rally in the seventh.

 With the tying run at second the Royals clean-up hitter rapped a ball to right fielder Tyson Gomm who fired a bullet to the plate, nailing what would have been the game's tying run.

In game two Ethan Cane lead the Terrier's half of the first off with a single through the five-six hole, moved to second on a Tyson Gomm fielder's choice and eventually scored on a clutch two strike, two out RBI single by Evan Farrell. 

 

In the second Andrius Jurenas belted a triple to lead off the inning and crossed on Isaac Sinning's RBI sac fly to left. 2-0 Terriers.

 

‎The Terriers padded their lead in the third when Evan Farrell cracked a single through the left side, stole second and scored when Andrius Jurenas blooped and RBI into center field. 

 

Rhys Montgomery was masterful on the mound in this one. He worked 5 innings, allowed just two hits and struck out five. 

 

The Royals scored three runs in their half of the sixth but the Terriers rallied for four runs in the bottom of the inning. The big blow came off the bat of Liam Bavington, a two RBI single with the bases loaded.

Two more Terriers crossed later in the inning to make it 8-3.

 

The Royals scored one run in the top of the seventh, but Julian Russell got the final three outs to preserve the 8-4 win and the Saturday sweep.
